Universal and Sony file a second copyright suit against Suno
Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment filed a second copyright lawsuit against Suno, alleging that it copied 60,202 sound recordings without licenses to build models behind its music-generation service. The complaint also targets the newer v6 models, arguing they inherit value from earlier allegedly infringing systems. The labels seek damages and an injunction; the allegations have not been decided by a court.
ElevenLabs makes Music v2.5 its default generation model
ElevenLabs released Music v2.5 as the new default model for prompted and reference generation in ElevenCreative. The company says the update produces richer melodies, more natural-sounding instruments and the biggest improvements in R&B, soul, hip hop, rock, metal, orchestral and cinematic music. Users can generate from written prompts or guide results with a reference track.
UMG and ElevenLabs sign an AI-music agreement
Universal Music Group and ElevenLabs signed an AI-music agreement, marking ElevenLabs' first deal with a major music company after earlier agreements with Kobalt and Merlin. The partnership adds another major rightsholder relationship to ElevenLabs' music efforts and extends UMG's recent work on AI remix experiences, but the candidate report does not describe a released product.
